Eggs: Martha, Granola Bar: Deliciously Organic, Surf: Liquid Salt

(image from Liquid Salt on my sidebar)

Getting close to my goal of being able to walk to the nose gracefully. We got lucky like lottery winners Wednesday. Surfed Blackies. Looked kind of junkie when we got there. But, upon the parking enforcer's request, had to money in the meter. So, decided to stay and surf with the rest of our surf mama's clan. It was so fun. I walked nearly to the end of my board on three waves. The water was crystal clear. The waves were long and peaky.

I have been baking a lot lately. Made dinner for a friend who just had a baby 2 wks ago. Made her family chicken pot pie and apple crisp. Then last week, made dinner for a friend who's parents were in town. Made vinegar roasted brussel sprouts, these baked potatoes you slice up, dress with oil, butter and garlic, then roast as well as chicken. So delicious. I've been wanting to make granola bars and these look pretty good. I also rented a bread making book from the library. I want to get the best, most simple recipe down. On the Deliciously Organic blog, I have also made her chocolate granola. It is amazing.

I also finally have all the ingredients to make my own laundry detergent. Can't wait. You only need three ingredients: Borax, bar soap and Washing Soda. The last was the hardest to find. We picked it up from Walmart yesterday. I try to avoid that place because why is everyone so angry at Walmart? Is it they type of person that shops there? Is it the mob mentality with it's overcrowded isles and over sized shopping carts? Too many low prices?

Found some cool egg decorating techniques to try out. So pretty. The cupcakes are also from Martha Stewart. I'm such a sucker for holiday crafts.

Sugar filled cupcakes. I try to keep the sugar to a minimum, but they are sooo cute! They do have real fruit, vitamin C suckers at Mother's Market...You could also make cupcakes with less sugar..

"Best Day Ever"

Last night after we got home from the beach, Monet told me, "If I could do one day over, it would be today. Today was the best day ever!"

That made me feel so happy. At the end of the day, I always have a little guilt in my heart with her. Monet is so sweet and I love her so much. That said, she is my difficult little sweet heart challenge. She asks me a million questions, never stops needing my constant attention, no matter how much I give her. It takes all of me to have patients with her and most days, towards the end, my patients is all gone...That's one of the downsides of living a life far away from family. We are surrounded by beauty and good friends, but it would be amazing to have loving grandparents to take over when I need a break. Just like they say, "You can't have your cake and eat it too."

In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep it simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don't try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.

pics and Charlie

Of course I have no idea where I got these beautiful pictures from online...

Got to hang out with Charlie yesterday. So lucky. He was in town for a job filming something. We went to eat at a place called the Gypsie Den, which I haven't been to in about 5 years. The crem brule is amazing creamy sweetness. He is such a good uncle. The kids were so excited to see him. We were chanting in the parking lot before he came down to the car-"Charlie, Charlie, Charlie." After dinner, the kids went with Robby to a birthday party, so Charlie and I got to go see the Hunger Games together. It's crazy how much we have in common and how similar we think. I also think we look the most alike of all the kids in our family. I really didn't spend that much time with Charlie growing up. I was always with frineds; either we had friends over, or we were at their house. But, I love the person Charlie has become. I love laughing with him and telling funny stories to eachother. Talking about religion and books and movies. I love my brother.

Disclaimer regarding the movie: I did not pick it. Nor do I think it is a good idea to promote a brutal, stressful, killing movie to a teenage audience. If you want to watch people getting killed, turn on the news. Or don't. I don't.

I have been addicted to pinterest lately. I just signed up and love it. We surfed Wednesday. It was so beautiful. The sun was out, the water was freezing like the melted ice water of Lake Tahoe. After we warmed up from the water, we got to lay out in our bikinis while the kids played. The rest of the week went by so fast as it always does these days with Monet in school. Isaac and I go to the gym. I do yoga and lift weights. Most days, we hit the park after Monet gets out. She's doing girlscouts and had a meet-up Wednesday. She loves all the patches and the activities. I watch one of her little friends, Layla, on Thursdays to help her single mom so she can work a little longer. We also made dinner for our friend's family that just had a sweet little baby boy. We made the best chicken-pot-pie and apple crisp ever. Of course we made a double batch for our family too. So, it's been a busy week. Those are just the fun highlights.
